Warning about the raw vegan diet

Dear all,

Since the formation of my website, as I have been blogging my personal journey and my various intellectual excursions, my recommendation to you has always been to be your own guru and to follow the instincts of your own body. If you require a professional medical or nutritional advice, I recommend that you contact a professional, not a self-proclaimed on-line guru. This note is intended to reinforce this message and also to warn you about the possible dangers of giving your power away to raw gurus.

How to exercise your most important body part

Physical concepts are free creations of the human mind, and are not,
however it may seem, uniquely determined by the external world.

Albert Einstein

There are many raw gurus these days. I see this phenomenon as a sign of the raw food diet increasing in its popularity around the world. Further, I see the raw food movement as a backlash against the processed-foods lifestyle that has been eroding the health of the society long enough for us to see its effects.

February Fruity News

Just a little bit of blogging to report some random thoughts. Last month I went camping again and this was the most exquisite experience. The ocean in Tasmania is really cold. I enjoyed bathing in the ocean nevertheless. I like the way the salty water makes my curly hair even curlier. What did I eat? I took some juicy fruit with me, watermelon and peaches, and also bananas. In my experience staying fruity when traveling is easy. It takes just a little preparation.

Are greens necessary on a raw food diet?

There seem to be contrasting opinions on this topic amongst raw food diet lovers. Some raw foodists say that greens are essential and recommend eating them daily in considerable amounts. According to a raw foodist Victoria Boutenko, “Greens contain all the essential minerals, vitamins and even amino acids that humans need for the optimal health” [2]. Victoria argues that there exists scientific evidence that greens have been  a part of human diet from very early in our history. However, the evidence for humans consuming certain foods in the distant past does not necessarily indicate that those foods are essential. So, is it possible to thrive without greens?

Before and After – an Update

I admit I am camera shy and I’d rather stay out of the spotlight. However, for the sake of sharing the empirical evidence that might inspire someone to change their lifestyle and gain health, I am willing to overcome my resistance. I am just a fragile human, full of imperfections, but I learned to accept my body as it was given to me. One thing I am not willing to accept – wearing it off at a rate higher than necessary. I won’t lie and say I am OK with getting older, as I love my life and if possible, would love to live forever. Nevertheless, I am aware of the fact that my time on this planet is temporary, and so I am trying to get the most of this short, precious time.  How? By doing things I love and being with people I love. I need the energy to do all of that! The raw food lifestyle seems to provide me with it perfectly.

My January garden

The best raw foods are freshly picked, tree or bush ripen fruit. So if you have a little space, try growing your own food! Fruit can be grown indoors in pots too. Here is a little tour of my January garden. I hope you like it.

My little friends.

Young avocado tree. No fruit on this one as yet:

Another bird rescue

There are lots of birds living on the trees around my house. They sometimes find some holes in the netting protecting my fruit trees and end up being stuck in that area. So I end up catching and releasing them. Don’t ask me how I do it, I just have some magic powers I guess. I’ve done it so many times that they probably know me well by now. I am their human mum.

Raw food ice-cream

If you care for a sweet raw food treat, here is one: Fruity ice-cream. Simply fold layers of blended frozen bananas and mixed berries. It’s unbelievably delicious!

Alternatively, blend frozen bananas with blueberries for a blueberry flavored ice-cream. The possibilities are endless.

How to freeze bananas? Peal the skins, break into smaller pieces for easy blending, put in a plastic bag and into a freezer for at least a day or so.

Storing your raw food supplies

One of the delightful tasks in your raw food diet lifestyle is storing your foods. In this post I share my raw food storage solutions.

You can find piles of fruit in my kitchen. I keep my fruit on large plates, in bowls and in baskets. I buy large quantities of fruit, often by boxes. I get told by visitors that my kitchen looks like a grocery store. I guess it does!

I spend a lot of time in my office at work. As you can imagine, it is filled with fruit. Whenever I am hungry, I simply grab something. It can’t get any more convenient than this.
